A68 Carter Bar And Camptown | Resurfacing Works
UPDATE (01/06/2026): To allow for road marking and studding works, an additional night of works will be required on the A68 at Carter Bar on Monday 8 June between 19:30 and 06:00.
No works are currently planned for Saturday or Sunday nights, or between Monday 1 June to Friday 5 June.
UPDATE 15 May 2026: As a result of operational issues related to a plant breakdown, the works on the A68 at Carter Bar will require an additional two nights to complete ending on the morning of Friday 29th May.
BEAR Scotland, on behalf of Transport Scotland, will be undertaking overnight resurfacing works on the A68 at Carter Bar and Camptown from Tuesday 5 May to Friday 29 May 2026 between 19:30 and 06:00.
For the safety of workers and road users, the A68 will be closed at the works location during working hours.
A signed diversion route will be in place between the A6088 junction and Bonjedward via the A6088 and A698. This will add approximately 9.7 miles and 15 minutes to affected journeys.
No works are currently planned for Saturday or Sunday nights, and on Thursday 7 May, works will commence at 22:00.
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times, and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to do so. Relevant stakeholders have also been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said:
“These resurfacing works will address defects and improve the overall condition of this section of the A68 for road users.
“It is essential for the safety of all road users that we close the road while these works are undertaken. However, we have scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption.
“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and understanding while we complete these improvements.”
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
