A1 Tyne Bridge | Closed To High Sided Vehicles during Storm Bram

Tyne Bridge
9th of December 2025, 6:00pm to 10th of December 2025, 2:00am

The bridge that carries the A1 trunk road over the River Tyne in East Lothian will be closed to high sided vehicles as a safety precaution from 18:00 tonight until 02:00 on Wednesday morning, with wind speeds of up to 60mph forecast during Storm Bram.

A diversion route for high sided vehicles will be signposted via the A199 between Abbotsview Junction near Haddington and Thistly Cross Roundabout near Dunbar. This will add approximately 4 minutes and 0.1 miles to affected journeys.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “The decision to close the A1 Tyne Bridge to high sided vehicles has been taken in the interests of safety, in collaboration with Police Scotland and East Lothian Council.

“The relatively short diversion should be used by all wind-susceptible vehicles, including high sided vehicles, cars with roof boxes, trailers or caravans, and motorcycles.

“All road users should take extra care during Storm Bram and pay close attention to weather warnings and travel advice.”
