A1 southbound Gladsmuir to Abbotsview | Drainage works
A programme of drainage improvement works involving overnight slip road, lane and carriageway closures is planned on the A1 southbound between Gladsmuir and Abbotsview Junctions.
The works will be carried out in eight phases from 20 October until 15 November, on Monday to Friday nights for the first and second weeks, then Monday to Sunday nights for the third and fourth weeks.
For the safety of workers and road users, the following closures and diversions will be in place between 19:30 and 06:00 each night:
20 October:
- The slip road exiting the A1 southbound at Gladsmuir Junction will be closed.
- Traffic wishing to exit the A1 southbound will be diverted via the A1 southbound to turn at Oaktree Junction, taking the exit onto the A199 northbound to return to Gladsmuir Junction.
- A southbound lane closure will be in place between Gladsmuir Junction and Oaktree Junction
21 October:
- The slip road onto the A1 southbound at Gladsmuir Junction will be closed.
- Traffic wishing to join the A1 southbound will be diverted via the A199 southbound to Oaktree Junction.
- A southbound lane closure will be in place between Gladsmuir Junction and Oaktree Junction.
28 October to 29 October:
- The slip road exiting the A1 southbound at Abbotsview Junction will be closed.
- Traffic wishing to exit the A1 southbound will be diverted via the A1 southbound to turn at Thistly Cross Roundabout, before returning on the A1 to exit via the Abbotsview Junction northbound off-slip.
- Advanced warning will also be in place before Oaktree Junction to direct traffic off the A1 at Oaktree Junction off-slip towards Haddington by following the A199 southbound.
- A lane closure will be in place between the Abbotsview Junction southbound off-slip and on-slip.
31 October:
- The slip road onto the A1 southbound at Abbotsview Junction will be closed.
- Traffic wishing to join the A1 southbound will be diverted via the A199 southbound to Thistly Cross Roundabout.
- A lane closure will be in place between the Abbotsview Junction southbound off-slip and on-slip.
4 November:
- The slip roads onto and off the A1 southbound at Gladsmuir Junction will both be closed.
- Traffic wishing to exit the A1 southbound will be diverted via the A1 southbound to turn at Oaktree Junction, taking the A199 northbound back to Gladsmuir Junction.
- Traffic wishing to join the A1 southbound at Gladsmuir Junction will be diverted via the A199 southbound to Oaktree Junction.
- A southbound lane closure will be in place between Gladsmuir Junction and Oaktree Junction.
5 November to 9 November:
- The A1 southbound carriageway between Gladsmuir Junction and Oaktree Junction will be closed.
- A diversion route will be signposted from Gladsmuir Junction to Oaktree Junction via the A199 southbound.
10 November to 14 November:
- The A1 southbound carriageway between Oaktree Junction and Abbotsview Junction will be closed.
- A diversion route will be signposted from Oaktree Junction to Abbotsview Junction via the A199 southbound.
15 November:
- The slip road onto the A1 southbound at Abbotsview Junction will be closed.
- Traffic wishing to join the A1 southbound will be diverted via the A199 southbound to Thistly Cross Roundabout.
- A lane closure will be in place between the Abbotsview Junction southbound off-slip and on-slip.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These works will include repairs to defective drainage piping and improvements to filter drains, reducing the risk of flooding and improving safety for road users.
