A1 South Of Innerwick Junction | Resurfacing Works

Innerwick Junction
8th of June 2026, 7:30pm to 2nd of July 2026, 6:00am

Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland is set to resurface 565 metres of deteriorated carriageway on the A1 south of Innerwick Junction, approximately three miles south of Dunbar.

For the safety of the workforce and the public during these works, an overnight convoy traffic management system will be in operation between 19:30 and 06:00 on Monday to Friday nights from 8 June to 2 July. The A1 will remain open to traffic, however motorists will be escorted through the site at 10mph.

Right-turn restrictions will be in place at Innerwick Junction when work is taking place.  Traffic from Innerwick Junction wishing to travel south on the A1 will be diverted northbound to turn at Spott Roundabout and return southbound. This diversion will add approximately 3 minutes and 2.9 miles onto affected journeys.

The A1 southbound dual carriageway will also be restricted to a single lane on approach to the site.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These surfacing improvements will help to address the defects on this section of the A1 and will greatly improve the experience for motorists.

“It is essential for safety that we manage traffic on the road during these works, however we’ve planned for the project to take place overnight and will be using a convoy traffic management system to keep the road open and minimise the impact.

“Feedback from local residents, community councils and elected representatives in this area of the A1 has guided the selection of alternative traffic management for these works and the format of the programme.

“We thank motorists and the local community in advance for their patience and understanding. We’ll do all we can to complete the work as quickly and safely as possible.”

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
