A1 Old Craighall | Overnight Resurfacing Works
BEAR Scotland will carry out essential overnight resurfacing works on the A1 at Old Craighall on the nights of Monday 27 and Tuesday 28 April 2026.
The works, carried out on behalf of Transport Scotland, will take place overnight between the hours of 20:30 and 06:00.
To ensure the safety of the workforce and road users, overnight slip road closures will be required as follows:
Night one (27 April): A full closure of the A1 southbound off-slip at Old Craighall will be in place. Traffic wishing to leave the A1 will be diverted via Wallyford. A lane closure will also be in operation on the A1 southbound carriageway, along with a lane closure on Old Craighall Roundabout, affecting traffic travelling eastbound on the A720 and from Monktonhall.
Night two (28 April): A full closure of the A1 northbound on-slip at Old Craighall will be in place. Traffic wishing to join the A1 will be diverted via Wallyford. A lane closure will remain in operation on the A1 southbound carriageway, along with a lane closure on Old Craighall Roundabout, affecting traffic travelling eastbound on the A720 and from Monktonhall.
A signed diversion route will be in place on both nights via the A1 to Wallyford junction, directing traffic towards Old Craighall Roundabout. This diversion will add approximately 3.4miles and 5 minutes to affected journeys.
Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “These resurfacing works will address defects on the A1 slip roads at Old Craighall and improve the overall condition of the carriageway for road users.
“For the safety of our workforce and road users, it is essential that we implement these closures and lane restrictions. We have scheduled the works overnight to minimise disruption.
“We thank road users and the local community for their patience and encourage them to plan ahead before travelling.”
All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
