A1 Northbound Near Dunbar | Resurfacing Works
The A1 northbound carriageway between Spott Roundabout and Thistly Cross Roundabout will be closed for resurfacing between 19:30 and 06:00 on the nights of Wednesday 27 May, Thursday 28 May, Friday 29 May and Monday 1 June.
The works will see Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland renew over one kilometre of deteriorated carriageway between Bowerhouse Junction and Myreside Junction.
During these overnight closures, a clearly signed diversion route for northbound road users will be in place from Broxburn Junction to Thistly Cross Roundabout via the A1087 and Summerfield Road through Dunbar, and the A199. This will add an estimated 8 minutes and 1.5 miles to affected journeys.
Access to the A1 from Bowerhouse/Broomhouse Junction will be closed during the works. A signed local diversion will be in place via the local road to and from Spott Roundabout.
Access to and from Myreside Junction will be controlled at the road closure points.
Emergency services will be given access through the works at all times and local access for residents within the closure points will be maintained when it is safe to pass through the work area.
Relevant stakeholders have been consulted in advance to make them aware of the plans.
Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “Motorists using the A1 will benefit from smoother, safer journeys following these works.
“Unfortunately, due to the high volume of traffic on this section of the A1, we have no option but to close the carriageway during the works to ensure the safety of the workforce and members of the public. We’ll do this overnight to minimise disruption.
“If you need to use the A1 northbound on these nights, our advice is to plan ahead and allow some extra time for the diversion.”
All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
