Massive Response to Queensferry Crossing Tour Ballot

Queensferry Crossing
27th of August 2025, 12:00am to 27th of August 2025, 11:59pm

Almost 28,000 applications for 180 places

A public ballot for tours inside the Queensferry Crossing has generated a massive response, with almost 28,000 applications for 180 places.

Tours will take place on Saturday 27 September as part of the Doors Open Days festival, visiting parts of the Queensferry Crossing normally closed to the public, including the interior of the box girder deck and the central reservation where the bridge’s cable stays are anchored.

The ballot has now closed, and 180 randomly selected winners will be notified by Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland later this week.

Exhibition and tower top trip raffle

Even if you are unsuccessful in the ballot, there’s still a chance to win a once-in-a-lifetime trip to the top of one of the Queensferry Crossing’s 210-metre towers.

The Forth Bridges Contact & Education Centre will be open to the public from 9am until 5pm on 27 September, featuring a free exhibition about the bridges, exhibits from the Scottish Roads Archive, educational activities for children and panoramic views.

Anyone who attends on the day will be able to enter a charity prize draw to win one of five pairs of places on a trip to the top of one of the Queensferry Crossing’s towers. Raffle tickets will be priced at £10, with all money raised going to BEAR Scotland’s national charity partner Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.

Massive response

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Bridges Manager, said: “This will be the first event of its kind on the Queensferry Crossing. The tours will be hosted by some of our most experienced engineers, and we’re looking forward to sharing our passion for maintaining this iconic bridge.

“We were expecting demand to be high, however the response has been massive.

“Although there are only 180 tour places, anyone else is welcome to visit the exhibition on 27 September and enter the prize draw for a trip to the top of one of the Queensferry Crossing’s towers.

“Hopefully we can raise lots of money for a great cause in Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland.”
