Road Improvement Works at four Locations on the A828

24th of April 2024, 7:00am to 18th of May 2024, 7:00pm

Motorists using the A828 are set to benefit from an improved road surface, with works planned by Transport Scotland’s operating company, BEAR Scotland, at four locations this month.

Resurfacing works will take place north of Appin bends, south of Portnacroish, and north of Oban Airport between 24 and 28 April 2024 as well as south of the Highland boundary from Wednesday 10 to Thursday 18 May 2024. All works will take place between the hours of 7am to 7pm with lane closures and a 10mph convoy.

Details of the projects are as follows:

  • North of Oban Airport (Monday 24 to Wednesday 26 April): Resurfacing improvements across 300m of carriageway will be made from Monday 24 April to Wednesday 26 April. Outside working hours temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed limit will be in place, as traffic will be traveling over a temporary surface.
  • North of Appin (Thursday 27 April): Road surface improvements will be made across 200m of carriageway on Thursday 27 April.
  • South of Portnacroish (Friday 28 April): Resurfacing improvements across 250m of carriageway will be made on Friday 28 April.
  • South of the Highland boundary (Wednesday 10 to Thursday 18 May): Resurfacing improvements across 1700m of carriageway will be made from Wednesday 10 to Thursday 18 May. Outside working hours temporary traffic lights and a 30mph speed limit will be in place, as traffic will be traveling over a temporary surface.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said: “We have a strong track record of delivering road improvement schemes and keeping the network moving for the benefit of motorists and local communities. These road surface improvements on the A828 will help address defects and reduce the need for ongoing maintenance.

“Traffic management is essential to ensure the safety of both roadworkers and motorists. Regrettably, there will be some delays, but our teams will do all they can to complete the scheme as safely and quickly as possible, and we thank the local community and road users for their patience in advance while we complete these projects. We encourage motorists to plan before setting out by checking the Traffic Scotland website for up-to-date travel information.”
