Network Rail issues reminder of full closures to survey railway bridge on M74, between Jn 6 and 7
(Southbound and Northbound)

M74 between Jn 6 and 7 will have a full closure in place Northbound between Jn 6 and 7 from 22:00hrs Thursday 16th May until 06:00hrs Friday 17th May and then Southbound between Jn 6 and 7 from 22:00hrs Friday 17th May until 06:00hrs Saturday 18th May.

  • Network Rail is reminding residents and motorists of these closures scheduled to take
    place in Hamilton.

As part of a commitment to providing a safe and reliable railway, engineers will be conducting a structural survey of the railway bridge (046/045) from 22:00hrs on Thursday 16th May until 06:00hrs on Friday 17th May & 22:00hrs on Friday 17th May until 06:00hrs on Saturday 18th May


Coneworx on behalf of Network Rail will manage the closures and will put out warning signs in advance of the closure taking place.

Darren Dickson, Project Manager for Network Rail, said: “The work we’re undertaking will provide vital information on the condition of this railway bridge is crucial for the long-term future reliability of the line.

“Working on the railway at night offers the safest environment for our teams and causes the least
disruption to our passengers and freight trains. However, we understand the inconvenience this work will cause some people.

“We would like to thank those affected for their patience and understanding and offer assurances
that every effort has been made to reduce the impact of our activities as much as possible.”
