Essential Resurfacing for Multiple Locations on the A9

• Nightly road closures with hourly amnesty periods for travel (between 8pm and 4am)
   

Transport Scotland is investing a total of £185,000 to carry out essential surfacing improvements on the A9 north of Inverness at three locations: south of Achrimsdale, Dunbeath and Georgemas Junction. The works will be carried out by BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s trunk road operator.

Scheme details:

South of Achrimsdale:

Start date: Sunday 19 May (overnight works)

End date: Tuesday 21st May (by 6am, weather dependent)

Traffic Management: Full road closure from 7pm to 6am with hourly amnesty periods between 8pm and 4am for escorted passage through the work zone.

Georgemas Junction:

Start date: Monday 20 May (overnight works)

End date: Wednesday 22nd May (by 6am, weather dependent)

Traffic Management: Full road closure from 7pm to 6am with hourly amnesty periods between 8pm and 4am for escorted passage through the work zone.

Dunbeath:

Start date: Tuesday 21 May (overnight works)

End date: Friday 24th May (by 6am, weather dependent)

Traffic Management: Full road closure from 7pm to 6am with hourly amnesty periods between 8pm and 4am for escorted passage through the work zone.

It is recommended that drivers arrive in good time for the amnesties to guarantee access. Outside of working hours, the road will be open with a reduced speed limit of 30mph due to the temporary road surface. Emergency vehicle access will be maintained at all times.

They will also significantly improve the overall driving experience. By creating a smoother road surface, we’re not just enhancing safety for motorists, but potentially reducing their fuel consumption through less tyre wear and tear.

“The overnight closures are essential for safety but we’ve taken steps to limit the overall impact of the project by carrying out the work overnight and by providing amnesty periods.
