Essential Bridge Repairs on the A737 at Risk Brae Commence Wednesday 1st May

Risk Brae
1st of May 2024, 10:00pm to 31st of May 2024, 6:00am

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential bridge repairs on the A737 at Risk Brae, south of Howwood, from Wednesday 1st May until Friday 31st May 2024. Traffic management will be in place on a 24-hour basis. This work was previously postponed in 2022.

This scheme will benefit around 21,500 vehicles using this route each day, by maintaining the safety of the structure and ensuring that the route remains serviceable. The scheme will also reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out using two-way 24-hour temporary traffic lights installed at this location. Belltrees Road shall remain open for local access only.

Two full closures of the A737 between Howwood Junction and Roadhead Roundabout will be required between 10pm on Wednesday 1st May and 6am on Thursday 2nd May, as well as between 10pm on Friday 31st May and 6am on Saturday 1st June in order to install and remove the traffic management. Signed diversions will be in place.

Northbound A737 traffic will be diverted via B777 Main Road, A736 Lochilbo Road and B773 Darnley Road to Kennishead Road and Bodystone Road. Traffic will then follow Barrhead Road to Hurtlet Road and finally to Linwood Road, where it will be able to re-join the A737.

Southbound traffic will follow this route in reverse.

Local access to properties on the A737 and Belltrees Road shall be retained throughout the duration of the full closures.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

This scheme will benefit around 21,500 vehicles using this route each day, by maintaining the safety of the structure and ensuring that the route remains serviceable. The scheme will also reduce the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

We thank road users for their patience while this essential work takes place.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
