Ash Dieback Tree Felling on the A83

BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland’s operating company, is removing trees affected by Ash Dieback Disease on the A83 from Inverary to Achadunan. This work extends the tree felling which has already taken place on the A835 and other North West trunk roads.

The work will take place from the evening of Monday 8 April to the morning of Saturday 4 May, between 7pm and 6am each night. The road will be closed during this time, with hourly amnesties from 8pm to 5am, using a convoy system and a speed limit of 10mph for the safety of workers and road users. Road users heading to ferries should build this into their travel plans.

Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, explained: “Unfortunately, Ash Dieback Disease has affected many ash trees in Scotland. After reviewing the ash trees along the A83, we've identified several with this disease and are arranging for their removal. It's crucial for safety to have traffic management measures in place while we do this.

“We know this will cause disruption and have scheduled the work for night-time when traffic is lighter to minimise impact.

“The work may lead to a slight increase in noise, and we apologise for any inconvenience.

“We appreciate the patience and understanding of road users and the local community.”

Consultation has taken place with relevant stakeholders.
