The village of Strathyre and a section of carriageway north of Runacraig on the A84 trunk road are set to receive carriageway and road marking enhancements ahead of the busy summer season, improving safety for road users.
BEAR Scotland will be conducting the works on behalf of Transport Scotland from the night of Sunday 28 April to the morning of Thursday 2 May, between 8pm and 5am each night.
Due to the narrow road widths in the area, there will be nightly road closures in both directions to ensure the safety of road workers and the public. There will be a signed alternative route via the A9, A823, A822 and A85, adding 22 miles to the journey between Doune and Lochearnhead. To minimise disruption, vehicles can pass through the site at amnesties of 9pm, 11pm, 1am and 3am. Drivers should plan their journeys and arrive ahead of official amnesties to ensure access.
A temporary 30mph speed limit will be in place outside working hours for safety.
Ian Stewart, BEAR Scotland’s North West Representative, said “The A84 is an important route for locals as well as visitors to the Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park. At Strathyre, the road surface is old and needs to be replaced. As well as that, upgrading the existing road markings will increase night time visibility, improving safety for users.
“We’re doing this work at night, and before the main tourist season, to minimise disruption.”
Emergency service vehicles will have access at all times. Consultation has been carried out with all stakeholders.
