A8 | Eurocentral Resurfacing Works

Road users are advised that the A8 eastbound carriageway between Eurocentral Junction (North roundabout) and Newhouse Junction (off slip for A73) will be closed progressively for a full weekend, during daytime, from 6am to 6pm, each day on the following dates:

· Saturday 18 May from 6am to 6pm (1 day)

· Sunday 19 May from 6am to 6pm (1 day) 

These temporary restrictions have been scheduled over one weekend during daytime hours to minimise disruption to road users as much as possible whilst road surface rejuvenation works are carried out. Daylight and dry weather are required to carry out this new process which involves spraying the two-lane road surface with a rejuvenation product followed by a short curing time. This process will extend the life of the existing road surface, help limit future road closures and reduce the carbon footprint.

A signed diversion route will be in place during the closures as follows:

For closure at A8 eastbound Eurocentral North roundabout via 1st exit crossing overbridge to Eurocentral South roundabout, take 2nd exit for Townhead Road, McNeil Drive, B799 Bo’Ness Road (east), A775 Edinburgh Road, A73 Bellside Road and follow permanent signage for M8 eastbound Junction 6 Newhouse or A73 for Airdrie/Motherwell/Lanark.

For the closure at A8 eastbound Chapelhall North roundabout via underpass to Chapelhall South roundabout, link road to B799 Bo’Ness Road (east) and follow diversion above for A73 at Newhouse

Road users are encouraged to plan ahead and check Traffic Scotland prior to travelling.

There will be no access through these works for emergency vehicles during the two daytime closures, due to road surface works across both lanes of the carriageway, with curing time required between 6am and 6pm each day.

The works will be carried out by Scottish Road Partnership on behalf of Transport Scotland to maintain the integrity and safety of this route. The works have been planned in consultation

with Transport Scotland, Traffic Scotland, North Lanarkshire Council and the emergency services.
