A78 Greenock | Essential Resurfacing

A78 Greenock | Cumberland Road
7th of May 2024, 8:00pm to 31st of May 2024, 6:00am

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing and patching on the A78 at Greenock between Cumberland Road and the start of the dual carriageway, as well as between Pennyfern Road and Neil Street, from Tuesday 7th May until Friday 31st May 2024.

This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.

The work will be carried out in two phases, using a combination of overnight closures, overnight convoys and daytime temporary traffic lights. A signed diversion will be in operation for road closures. We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while this essential work takes place.

Phase One: Overnight closures of the A78 Inverkip Road between Cumberland Road and the dual carriageway between 8pm and 6am each night, from Tuesday 7th May until Thursday 16th May 2024. There will also be daytime temporary traffic lights installed at this location to facilitate the cooling of deeper sections of treatment. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Friday 17th May 2024.

A78 northbound traffic will be diverted via Bankfoot Roundabout, where it will take the first exit to join the A770. At Bullring Roundabout, traffic will be able to rejoin the A78 or join the A8 and the diversion will end. A78 southbound traffic will follow the same diversion route but in reverse.

Phase Two: Overnight convoy working will take place between Pennyfern Road and Neil Street between 8pm and 6am between Tuesday 28th May and Thursday 30th May 2024, with temporary traffic lights installed at the Neil Street Junction. Traffic management will be removed by 6am on Friday 31st May 2024.

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
