UPDATE 10/03/2023: In order to accommodate the Easter Weekend, works on the A76 Howford Bridge are now due to finish on Friday 14th April 2023. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking further planned work on the A76 at Howford Bridge, 1.5 miles south of Mauchline. Phase Two of these works will take place on the southbound carriageway from Monday 27th February until Friday 7th April 2023. Traffic management will be in place on a continuous 24/7 basis.

This further phase of works will upon, completion, benefit around 8,623 vehicles using this route each day.

Work will be carried out using a southbound single lane closure at Howford Bridge, which will be in effect 24/7 under temporary traffic signals installed at this location.

The work being undertaken includes the removal of the existing southbound surfacing and waterproofing between kerbs and centreline; removal of precast concrete kerbs; preparation and concrete repairs of bridge deck; waterproofing the bridge deck; installation of drainage kerbs and backfill; installation of dri-deck drainage; resurfacing; reinstate road markings; and the addition of further gullies off the bridge deck that will sit in front of the nearside kerbs. This is the same activity that was completed on the northbound carriageway in December 2022.

Angus Bruce, Amey Bridge Manager for the South-West Trunk Road Network, said:

“While this scheme is developed for this structure, temporary traffic lights will remain in place on the A76 Howford Bridge to ensure the continued safety of road operatives and the travelling public. We thank road users for their patience and understanding while this essential maintenance takes place.”

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.

Please note, all scheme works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
