Balfour Beatty, working on behalf of Transport Scotland, began works on the North Approaches to the M8 Kingston Bridge on 29th August 2022. This scheme will replace copes and parapets on this section of the structure. The first phase of these works on the eastbound carriageway will be completed by Sunday 30th October 2022.
The second phase of works will involve overnight closures on the westbound side of the bridge, commencing on Monday 31st October 2022. Road closures will be in place most nights between 10pm and 6am for approximately 10 weeks. The diversion route for westbound M8 traffic during these closures will be:

Exit M8 18 Charing X/Kelvingrove > Newton Street > M8 Westbound
During periods of closure, local traffic using the Anderston on/off slip will be diverted via the following routes:

Anderston off Slip Closure

Exit M8 18 Charing X/Kelvingrove > Newton Street > Argyle St
Anderston on Slip Closure

Continue on North Street > Join M8 Westbound at Junction 18
Closures are required for these works to create enough working space to safely complete the demolition and removal of the old parapets, manage delivery of materials to the work site and install replacement copes.

Outwith these times, the bridge will operate with narrowed lanes, for the safety of road users and the workforce, whilst any day shift works are being completed.

Access for emergency services will be maintained at all times.

Balfour Beatty anticipate that the project will be complete by February 2023.

Noise monitoring will continue to measure compliance with baseline levels. Balfour Beatty will utilise best practice construction techniques to reduce noise disruption from night works as far as practicable however some disruption may occur.

Please note, these works are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled at short notice if weather conditions are not favourable.
