Overnight carriageway and lane closures are scheduled on the M9 southbound near Plean, to allow Transport Scotland’s operating company BEAR Scotland to repair a safety barrier on a bridge carrying the motorway.

The M9 southbound will be closed between Junctions 9 and 8 from 20:00 to 06:00 on the nights of 10 November and 17 November, to allow a temporary safety barrier to be installed and removed at the start and finish of the works.

During these closures, southbound traffic on the M9 will be diverted from Junction 9 via the M80 southbound to turn at Junction 7 Haggs, before returning northbound and joining the M876 eastbound to M9 Junction 8. This diversion will add approximately 9 miles and 8 minutes onto affected journeys.

The hard shoulder will be closed for the duration of the works, and lane one on the southbound carriageway will be closed each night from 20:00 to 06:00.

David Bishop, BEAR Scotland’s South East Unit Bridges Manager, said: “The project to replace and upgrade this damaged bridge parapet and safety barriers on either side is essential to ensuring the safety of motorway users for years to come.

“We thank motorists in advance for their patience and understanding and recommend that they check the latest travel updates, plan ahead and allow extra travel time for their journeys during these periods.”

Consultation has been carried out with relevant stakeholders to inform them of the works in advance.

All work is weather dependent and subject to postponement or cancellation in the event of adverse conditions.
