M8 Junction 4A Westbound On-slip | Drainage Works

Heartlands
17th of November 2025, 8:30pm to 21st of November 2025, 6:00am

Overnight drainage improvement works are scheduled on the slip road onto the westbound M8 at Junction 4A, Heartlands, near Whitburn.

The slip road will be closed during the works, from 20:30 until 06:00 on the nights of Monday 17 November to Friday 21 November.

A signed diversion route for traffic wishing to join the westbound M8 will be in place, via the M8 eastbound to turn at Junction 4 and return westbound. This will add approximately 6 minutes and 4.4 miles onto affected journeys.

Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained at all times and all traffic management will be removed out with working hours.

Consultation has been carried out with emergency services and relevant stakeholders to share information about the project in advance.

Tommy Deans, BEAR Scotland’s South East Network Manager, said: “It’s essential for safety that we close the slip road while these drainage improvement works take place, however we’ll do this overnight to minimise the impact.

“If you need to use this route during the works, our advice is to plan ahead and allow a few extra minutes for the diversion.”

All works are weather dependent and subject to postponement in the event of adverse conditions.
