M8 and M898 On-slip | Essential Resurfacing

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland, is undertaking essential resurfacing on the M8 westbound and the M898 (Erskine Bridge) on-slip from Thursday 24th October until Monday 28th October 2024 in three phases as follows: 

PHASE 1 8pm Thursday 24th October until 6am Friday 25th October 

Works will be in place as follows – 

  • M8 westbound from Junction 30 to the Ferry Road overbridge – reduced to 1 lane in each direction 
  • M898 southbound to M8 westbound on-slip - Closed

    Traffic from the M898 on-slip will be diverted via the M8 eastbound and directed to exit at Junction 29, follow the A737 south to Linwood and the A761 through Kilmacolm where they will be able to join the A8 at Newark Roundabout in Port Glasgow.

     

PHASE 2 8pm Friday 25th October until 6am Saturday 26th October, then 8pm Sunday 27th October until 6am Monday 28th October

Full closure of the westbound M8 between Junctions 29 and 31 (preparatory work from 8pm with the road closed from 10pm). 

Overnight closures of the following slip roads – 

  • Junction 29 westbound on-slip
  • Junction 29A westbound off-slip 
  • Junction 30 westbound off-slip to the M898 
  • Junction 30 westbound M8989-M8 on-slip 

There will also be lane closures as follows – 

  • M898 southbound to the M8 westbound on-slip 
  • M8 Junction 30 eastbound on-slip 
  • M8 from Junction 30 to the Ferry Road overbridge – reduced to 1 lane in each direction 

Traffic from the M898 will be diverted via the M8 eastbound and directed to exit at Junction 29, follow the A737 south to Linwood and the A761 through Kilmacolm where they will be able to join the A8 at Newark Roundabout in Port Glasgow.  

M8 westbound traffic will be directed to exit the M8 at Junction 28A and follow the above diversion. 
 

PHASE 3 6am on Saturday 26th October until 10pm on Sunday 27th October 

A contraflow will be in place on the M8 westbound at Junction 30 with the M8 reduced to 1 lane in each direction. The M898 to M8 westbound on-slip road at Junction 30 will be closed. Traffic will be directed to join the eastbound M8 and turn at Junction 29 to join the westbound M8 and travel through the contraflow. 

Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works. 

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable. 
This scheme will benefit vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future.
