Essential Woodland Management on the M74 Between Junctions 6 and 8 Commences Monday 28th November 2022

Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking the essential removal of dangerous and diseased trees on the M74 northbound and southbound carriageways between Junctions 6 and 8 from Monday 28th November until Friday 27th January 2023. Removal work will take place between the hours of 7am and 5pm, each day.
This scheme, with a value of £339,000, forms part of our Tree and Woodland Maintenance Management Strategy where we are taking essential steps to combat the effects of Ash Dieback along our road network. It benefits vehicles using this route each day, by improving the safety of the carriageway and reducing the risk that diseased trees pose to road users.
The work will be carried out using progressive and phased hard shoulder / lane closures and the anticipated duration for these works will be 8 weeks. We thank road users for their co-operation and patience while these essential works take place.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Our operatives will follow strict physical distancing and hygiene protocols throughout the programme, in line with the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 guidance.
