Amey, on behalf of Transport Scotland as part of the Network Management Contract for the South-West Trunk Road Unit, are undertaking essential improvement works on the A78 between Inverkip and Greenock.
Works will consist of resurfacing on the A78 northbound, between the Loch Thom junction and the north entrance to the former IBM site and replacing road markings and studs, both directions, to improve road safety along a 3.2km section of the A78 dual and single carriageway between Bankfoot Roundabout and Flatterton Road.
Overnight works will take place from Saturday 16th September until Saturday 30th September 2023. This scheme will benefit around 14,500 vehicles using this route each day, by improving the condition of the carriageway and reducing the need for more extensive maintenance in the future as well as improving the safety of the route for all road users.
The work will be carried out using overnight road closures and a signed diversion will be in operation. We thank road users for their patience and co-operation while this essential work takes place.
There will be overnight closures between 8pm and 6am from Saturday 16th September to Thursday 21st September 2023 with all traffic management to be removed by 6am on Friday 22nd September.
There will be additional overnight closures on the northbound carriageway only between 8pm and 6am from Tuesday 26th September until Friday 29th September, with all traffic management to be removed by 6am on Saturday 30th September.
Northbound traffic will be diverted via the first exit at Bankfoot Roundabout to follow the A770 towards the Bullring Roundabout to re-join the A78 or to join the A8. Southbound traffic will follow the same diversion route but in reverse.
Access for emergency service vehicles will be maintained throughout these works.
Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
