A9 southbound overnight road closure
Issued: 20 November 2024

Please be aware that there will be an overnight road closure of the A9 southbound at Blackford between midnight and 4am on the morning of Friday 22nd November.

Work is currently taking place to install new vehicle safety barriers on the A9 southbound carriageway either side of the railway parapet, located approximately 340m north of the Highland Spring head office at Blackford.

The closure is required in order to ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists while a certain phase of the work process is carried out.

There will also be a further overnight closure of the A9 southbound on the morning of Friday 29th November between midnight and 4am.

The following diversion route will be in place during both closures.

The A9 southbound will be closed from the A9 on slip from the A823 at Gleneagles.

Southbound traffic can travel north on A823 through Gleneagles Village, then turn southwest onto the A822, travelling via Westerton/Garrick/Braco to rejoin the A9 at Greenloaning.

Amey is undertaking overnight safety improvements at a railway parapet on the A9 near Blackford in Perth and Kinross from Sunday 3rd November to Friday 6th December.

The essential maintenance, which Amey is delivering on behalf of Transport Scotland, will install new vehicle safety barriers on the A9 southbound carriageway either side of the railway parapet, which is located approximately 340m north of the Highland Spring head office at Blackford.

Work will take place overnight from Sunday to Thursday each week between 7.30pm and 6.30am. There will be no overnight work on Friday and Saturday nights during the work period.

To ensure the safety of roadworkers and motorists the work will be undertaken using a closure of lane one on the A9 southbound carriageway. There will also be the need for occasional convoy working when work necessitates.

There will be a 50mph speed limit in place overnight during the works. Traffic management will be lifted each morning at 6.30am before being put back in place each night at 7.30pm.

The upgrades will benefit more than 26,300 vehicles who use this route each day.

Please note, all schemes are weather dependent and may be cancelled or rescheduled if weather conditions are not favourable.
